J. Lawrence Isherwood  ( 1917 - 1989 )

This site is dedicated to the life and work of the Wigan artist, James Lawrence Isherwood.

I have been collecting Isherwood’s work for a number of years and decided two years ago to publish the first book covering his life story, with examples of his work from the thirties to the eighties. After two years of research and photographing numerous samples of  Isherwood’s paintings the book is now published. I have been given unprecedented access to the family photographs, letters, documents and memorabilia from both Molly Isherwood, the artist’s sister-in-law, and Fraser White, the son of Pat White, who Lawrence lived with for approx. four years in the late seventies. To them I extend my sincere thanks. I have also carried out numerous interviews with people who knew Isherwood in person.
